EAST HAMPTON, NY — The iconic Grey Gardens carriage house has reportedly been sold.

According to a post on Realtor.com, the home, which was originally listed for $9.5 million in January, was reduced to $8.95 million in April. The house was eventually sold for less than that, according to Curbed.

The home has held great interest for those fascinated by "Big Edie" Bovier Beale and her daughter "Little Edie Beale."

While scores packed an estate sale after the fabled Grey Gardens home was in contract, the carriage house, according to a Realtor.com article, located adjacent to Grey Gardens, was built in 1896 and was originally part of the Grey Gardens estate, but was sold in the early 1950s.

The Realtor.com listing for the property, located on Apaquogue Rd., pointed out that the beautifully updated original 1896 Grey Gardens carriage house is located on a hedged 1.1 acres with ocean and reserve views, just moments to Georgica Beach — and is on the market for the first time in 56 years.

The 3,516 square foot home — which could be expanded to 5,511 square feet, plus a full finished lower level — features a large paneled carriage room with a fireplace and French doors to a shaded terrace, a tiled dining/garden room, an oversized family room, 5 bedrooms, water-view balconies, a heated 45 ft pool, and detached 2-car garage.

"Grey Gardens", an iconic documentary and later, musical, chronicles the lives of mother and daughter, both named Edith Beale, who lived in squalor on the dilapidated property, which was notoriously overrun by cats and raccoons and without running water, located at 3 W. End Road in East Hampton.

The completely renovated home was available for rent before a buyer entered into contract, according to a listing by Realtor.com.
