Tornado Warning Ends, Severe Thunderstorm Warning Until 5:30 PM

There are no confirmed reports of a tornado touching down, but a lightning strike caused a fire at a Peconic home.

A tornado warning for the East End has now expired, but a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 5:30 p.m. A flash flood warning is also in effect until 7 p.m.

The NWS says:

THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS STORM HAS A HISTORY OF WIND DAMAGE...WITH TREES DOWN IN MATTITUCK. SEEK SHELTER NOW INSIDE A STURDY STRUCTURE AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS!

There have been no confirmed reports of a tornado touching down in the area, but firefighters were battling a blaze at a home on Wells Road in Peconic (see photo above) that authorities on the scene said was caused by a lightning strike.
