Little Dog With 'Big Personality' Desperately Needs Surgery

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton family needs help for their dog, Mouse, just two years old, who is in desperate need of surgery.

A GoFundMe page, "Surgery for Mouse" was created by Amanda and Brianna Leland for Mouse, who belongs to Amanda's sister Tammy.

According to the GoFundMe page, Mouse is two years old and is a long-haired, 3 lb. chihuahua.

"I wanted to play and as I jumped off the couch tonight I landed on my brother Freckles and got hurt pretty badly," the page said. "We found out I fractured my left elbow so badly it needed to be amputated to avoid any more complications in the future. My family paid $1,000 for me to be seen and get X-rays done, but surgery is absolutely needed and they said it’s between $5,000 to $6,000, for me to feel better again. Please, I need your help," the page said. "I really would love to be able to feel better again and play with my toys."

Tammy spoke to Patch about how important Mouse is to her family.

"Mouse is our baby and means everything to us," Tammy said. "We always tell her she’s our 'prettiest girl in the whole world'! She may only be 3 lbs. but has a big personality and makes anyone who meets her fall in love. Mouse loves to play fetch, cuddle up on your lap and give tons of kisses. She even has our older 10-year old dog playing with toys, which he never did before she came into our home. She makes our home complete."

Tammy added that trying to put into words what her family feels for Mouse isn't easy.

"She is so loving and so happy all the time. When we come home after being out — even if only to check the mail — she is so excited and wagging her tail waiting to greet us and waiting for us to acknowledge her presence. She loves my young nieces, 6 and 1, and is so gentle with them. Mouse is a great companion to our older dog Freckles and keeps him actively playful, which has been so great to watch. Mouse makes us all so happy and has completed our home in a way we didn’t know we needed."
