Man, 77, Hit Woman With Belt; Toddler, Girl Nearby: Cops

He hit a woman with a leather belt while she was lying close to a 3-year-old toddler and a 13-year-old girl, police say.

AMAGANSETT, NY — An Amagansett man, 77, was arrested after he hit a woman with a belt with a toddler, 3, and a 13-year-old girl nearby, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Juan Marte-Falette, was arrested on August 4 at 11:26 p.m. on Montauk Highway in Amagansett and charged with two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17, a misdemeanor, after he struck a woman multiple times with a leather belt while she was lying in close proximity to the 3-year-old child and to a 13-year-old girl.

Marte-Falette was also charged with two counts of second degree assault, intent to cause physical injury with a weapon/instrument, a felony, after he intentionally struck the woman multiple times with the leather belt, leaving bruises, including raised red welts, on her arms and legs and causing substantial pain; he also pulled her hair, causing pain to her scalp, police said.

He was released into the custody of the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, police said.
