Man Attacks Parents, Barricades Himself In Hamptons Home: Police

The situation in East Hampton turned violent Tuesday as a man attacked his parents and barricaded himself in the apartment, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY —Violence erupted when a man attacked his parents and then barricaded himself in an East Hampton apartment Tuesday, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, the incident took place at 4:04 p.m. on Accabonac Road, when a 49-year-old "emotionally disturbed man" began smashing items and attacked his parents.

When police arrived, the man barricaded himself while throwing objects at police from a second-floor window and threatening violence, authorities said.

After numerous attempts to communicate with the man were unsuccessful, members of the East Hampton Police Department's emergency service unit entered the apartment and took the man into custody, police said.

He was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for evaluation; criminal charges are forthcoming, police said.
