Montauk is Officially the Most Expensive Destination in NYS
A poll of room rates across New York State finds three of the four most expensive destinations are on the East End.
It’s official: the most expensive place to stay in New York State is Montauk according to NewYorkHotels.org and reported in Travel Daily News and the Digital Journal. On average, a night’s stay in Montauk costs $342.
Following closely in the rankings of the priciest destinations in New York State are East Hampton, Saratoga Springs, Southampton and Greenport. New York City ranks eighth on the list with an average room rate of $153. Watertown is the cheapest place to spend the night in New York State with rooms averaging below $100 a night.
The survey by NewYorkHotels.org included hotels and motels with at least three stars and used the rates for double rooms during the month of August for the purposes of their survey.

The following table shows the Top 10 most expensive destinations in the state of New York this late summer. The rates indicated reflect the average rate for the cheapest available double room for the time period spanning August 1–31, 2014.
