Opinion: East Hampton Village As Beautiful As A Christmas Card

With lit trees and beautifully decorated storefronts, East Hampton does the holidays.

I remember walking East Hampton Village’s Main Street, then down Newtown Road one late Christmas Eve with no cars or folks in sight. I was living on Barnes Lane tucked behind the Golden Pear and often walked the village roads.

That night it was quiet, cold, clear and all Christmas. The lit trees lining the streets and the decorated storefronts like Ralph Lauren were in high feather. I remember marveling at the pure Christmas magic in the air. I felt a tear run down my cheek I was that moved.

Over the past 17 years I have witnessed the town’s employees putting up the trees and the lights. I always tell them I appreciate their efforts. I no longer live in the town but my boat and post office box still brings me out weekly. Since this time of year it is totally dark by 5 p.m., the Christmas lights really are prevalent. It is totally Hallmark Christmas card worthy. I love the yearly East Hampton Library calendars; I suppose you do one just with Christmas photos, lithographs and watercolors.

I suppose I could find out who is responsible for the idea decorating the village years back but I do now say, “Thank you!”

So lastly I say thank you to the folks who took the time to make the town and village shine so majestically every holiday season. Please remember the message of taking the time to appreciate the pure beauty of what you just might take for granted.
