Opinion: Living Out East As The World Turns

So much change has happened in the last year let alone the last decade. The new norms wait just around the corner.

The world spins around every day and circles the sun every year and every spin and every circle brings on huge change to the planet. The east end is just one place on earth experiencing obvious change.

As all east end realtors will testify homes are being sold and bought are higher prices at record rates in record numbers. Why? Perhaps, many reasons but no doubt also due to the World Wide Covid -19 phenomenon of 2020.

Only through the lens of future days will we ever understand the total impact of the virus but no one can debate the way we all live globally has changed forever. I for one will be germ sensitive for the rest of my life. I am sure on this I am not alone.

Work from home , at home, in the home now has a new meaning. Law cases, school classes, lectures, plays, presentations at are done sitting in front of home computers on a regular bases. Even art, film, and antique festivals are virtual and even after the pandemic will remain at least partially online because of the broader audience they can potentially meet.

As a sixty-something married fella, my heart goes out to the souls pursuing companionship, love, etc. because the last year made things more difficult. Hopefully the last year may be the catalyst moving forward for a new era with new success rates in finding forever companions!

2021 has brought in a political shift and a geographical shift. Many folks are leaving areas for their pursuit of happiness. Change is dangerously exciting and for many the new unknown “Parameters,” of social norms will be tough to navigate. It seems the more we use technology the harder it is for the common folks not to be strangled by it to find the success we think we should. Being interconnected the way the world has become seems to be a double edged sword of both positive and negative information with energies flowing 24/7 on the worldwide web. Sadly the cost of surfing the web will have to of course go up as the freedoms on it become limited.

This era we are in may someday be known as “back in the days” when you could do everything free and easy. Sadly as you read this, tech minds are working hard to dream up new ways to monetize the web to finance their new private jet and super yacht.

That brings the discussion to the east end where so many of the most successful at turning ideas, dreams, and schemes into big money have created and placed opulent seasonal nests to perch above in. For statistical minded folks you might say the average income of the east end is rising as the medium income is either remaining the same or getting lover. I have been assigned stories to write about the needs of the growing underserved juxtaposed to the need for more private jet and helicopter space at the local airport.

Education and what it can achieve at higher levels is being questioned. Does it condemn you to a life of mediocre success by creating boundaries of what you can do by being specialized and specifically trained? Lots of “C” student realtors are outperforming teachers with “A” average transcripts, not to mention even doctors and lawyers. Just saying things like paying the highest prices for higher education is not bringing in record growth in income projections. At one time a college degree meant almost guaranteed success in life, now many students are swallowed up by college debt and need to declare bankruptcy. I remember a dad saying he wanted his son to go to college so when he graduated and took over the hugely successful family lawn servicing business he’d be “an educated gardener.” Not sure how all that logic works today.

Lastly in all this change is the growing constant that folks like to make easy money selling illegal and legal drugs to folks who think they need them. This is a horrific tragedy playing out all over the east end. It strikes at both the rich and poor, both young and old. The Covid-19 pandemic has smoked screened the opioid crisis that over time will most likely kill multiple times more folks. People are using all different types of tactics to market killer habit forming drugs to make easy money. That is the truth .

However, the east end will always have a sunny future because of it’s beauty and proximity to the ocean and its wonderful summer weather.

What can be compared to a perfect summer’s day on the east end?
