Details Emerge In Springs Armed Robbery: Police

The man forcibly stole money from a person in their car, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — New details are emerging about a possible armed robbery Tuesday in Springs, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, the incident took place just after 3 p.m. when a white man, about 5-feet, 5-inches tall, dressed in camouflage, and possibly armed, entered a person's vehicle and forcibly stole money, then fled on foot from the end of Shipyard Lane.

The Southampton Village Police Department's K-9 unit and Suffolk County Police aviation were brought in to search, police said.

Also, out of "an abundance of caution," the Springs School bus departure and dismissal were delayed while police secured the area, authorities said.

"We appreciate the cooperation of Springs School staff, students, and parents," police said.
