EAST HAMPTON, NY — The popular HBO series "Succession" is filming in East Hampton all week.

According to East Hampton Town Councilwoman Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, liaison to the special events committee, representatives for the series applied for a five-day permit and arrived Sunday at Kirk Park in Montauk. Scenes for the series' third season will be shot at Shadmoor State Park, a beach on Old Montauk Highway, and on Beach Lane in Wainscott.

The shooting is expected to last until Thursday or Friday, according to Burke-Gonzalez. She said misinformation has been circulating in the form of an email that says residents can't park on Beach Lane Wednesday and Thursday. That is not true, she said: Residents can park as normal and access the beach as they always do.

On Thursday evening, a short driving scene will be filmed on Beach Lane, she said. The East Hampton Town Police Department will be there and residents will be allowed to head to the beach or their homes as normal once the scene is done, she said.

Burke-Gonzalez was thrilled to welcome the HBO team to East Hampton: "What's great is we've always said that we welcome film crews here in the off-season."

The timing is perfect, she said — and the crews have proven to be a boon to locals after a hard year. "From what I understand they booked 100 rooms in Montauk. They're frequenting small businesses, buying cups of coffee. So it's good for the economy."

"Succession" spotlights the Roy family — Logan Roy (Bryan Cox) and his four children. Roy controls one of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerates in the world. The series, which was nominated for five Emmy Awards in 2019, including Outstanding Drama Series, "tracks their lives as they contemplate what the future will hold for them when — or if — their aging father begins to step back from the company," according to the HBO website.

The first two seasons of the series are streaming on HBO Max while the third season is in production.

"Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of Season 2, Logan Roy begins Season 3 in a perilous position," according to HBO. "Scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances, tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war."

The long-running CBS police drama "Blue Bloods" also filmed scenes on Long Island this month.
