Remembering Rachel: After Columbine, Kids Choose Kindness

Students learned the history of Rachel Joy Scott, the first person killed in the tragic Columbine High School shooting in 1999.

SAG HARBOR, NY —Years after the Columbine High School shooting tragedy, East End students chose kindness recently.

Presenters from Rachel's Challenge spoke to Pierson Middle and High School students on Jan. 16 in an effort to promote positive change within schools and community.

"Through the powerful and positive presentations, students learned the history of Rachel Joy Scott, the first person killed in the tragic Columbine High School shooting in 1999. They gained insight into the impact she made through acts of kindness and the legacy she left behind," the district said.
