Road Rage In Hamptons Leads To Felony Assault Charge: Cops

A New York City man was charged with felony assault and released on $5,000 bail, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A road rage incident in East Hampton led to emergency surgery for the person assaulted, police said.

Charles Harrison Streep, 31, of New York City, was arrested at an East Hampton Village home Thursday morning and and charged with second degree assault and second degree strangulation, police said.

According to the East Hampton Star, Streep is the nephew of actress Meryl Streep.

East Hampton Village Police said the incident took place on Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Chase Bank on Main Street.

Police responded to reports of a possible fight and found a person who had sustained "serious head trauma" and needed emergency surgery, officials said. An investigation revealed that Streep had assaulted the person, police said.

Streep was arraigned by East Hampton Town Justice Steve Tekulsky and was released on $5,000 bail, police said.
