Sag Harbor Children Choose Kindness, Create Quilt

The most important life lessons can be instilled early on.

SAG HARBOR, NY — At a time when bullying is rampant in schools nationwide, Sag Harbor Elementary School kids chose kindness.

To inspire her students to always care for others, Sag Harbor Elementary School first-grade teacher Chelsea King created a kindness quilt that is now on display in the school, the district said.

Measuring 8' x 7', the colorful felt quilt features encouraging quotes written by students in grades 3 to 5.

"Kindness is not what you get, it is what you give,” one child wrote. “One kind word can change someone’s entire day," another added.

King said the quilt reinforces this year’s school theme, “Sag Harbor Sparkles: Kindness Counts.”
