Sam's Garners Raves In Internet Star's 'Barstool Pizza Review'

EAST HAMPTON, NY — Internet sensation Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports learned recently what many on the have known for years: The pizza at Sam's Bar and Restaurant in East Hampton is their choice for the best on the East End.

Portnoy, known for his Barstool Sports blog, also writes "One Bite Pizza Reviews." In his "Barstool Pizza Review", Portnoy said Sam's has been family-owned since 1947. "The lights are always on at Sam's," he said, repeating the business' slogan.

Opening the box, Portnoy took a look and said it resembled a "bar-looking pizza there, pretty good."

Taking a slice, he said: "I like the bottom. Looks very light and crispy."

After a big bite, he said, "I sucked that up like a hoover."

And then, the verdict: "This is pretty good. A lot of people said this was the best pizza in the Hamptons and they may be right, " Porntoy said. "Very crispy with the dough. This is pretty good stuff."

He made reference to his coronavirus scare. According to foxbusinessnews.com, Portnoy said he believes he may have had COVID but has not confirmed if he had a test or diagnosis.

Sam's was his first stop since leaving quarantine, he said — and, he added, the pizza definitely hit the spot. "I'm going 7.8," Portnoy said, rating the slice. "This is very good."

Graham Quinn, owner of Sam's, reflected on the surprise kudos: "We were as surprised as anyone to see him there," he said. "Waiting a day for the review was exciting, as you never can be sure how exactly it’s going to go. And then to watch the video and hear him say that a lot of people think it’s the best pizza in the Hamptons — and they may be right— was music to my ears," he said. "It was a fantastic review for us and I’m very happy with it."

The timing couldn't have been better, Quinn said.

"It was a very welcome review and definitely a bright spot on a summer that brought a lot of challenges to Sam's and our community as a whole."

Quinn reflected on the enduring success of the iconic eatery.

"I believe the secret to Sam's is the great mix of locals and tourists who all share stories of their own Sam's experience, generations in the making," he said. "I would also like to thank my many great staff members that work at Sam's and make it the place it is."

He added: "It’s official. Sam's is the best pizza in the Hamptons."
