Sandra Lee Raises Awareness And Funds To Win The Battle Against Breast Cancer

Sandra Lee talks to Patch about a subject she knows all too well.

EAST HAMPTON, NY - Sandra Lee has never been the kind of woman who waits for things to happen — she has always been a fighter and a champion for causes, and people, she believes in. When she faced – and won – her own battle with breast cancer, she became a warrior to help fight for a cure for others.

Lee, who is best known as a philanthropist, author, TV personality and breast cancer survivor, will be honored July 9, at the 12th Annual A Hamptons Happening. The event, which helps fund science's quest for a cure for cancer, marks the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Samuel Waxmen Cancer Research Foundation by noted oncologist and cancer researcher Samuel Waxman, MD.

Of the event, Lee tells Patch: "To be recognized at the Hamptons Happening by The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation is a significant honor. After my breast cancer diagnosis, I was determined to get the message out there in any possible way that early detection saves lives.

"My friend Robin Roberts says to make your mess your message . . . and I've received such great gifts by following her advice," Sandra said. "It's been a privilege to meet wonderful, dedicated people at Stand Up To Cancer, the Congressional Families Prevent Cancer Foundation, Susan G. Komen and now Dr. Waxman and his extraordinary efforts to create good health, and great hope, to so many."

At this year's A Hamptons Happening, there will be over 30 top chefs and restaurants from NYC and the Hamptons creating savory and sweet tastes for guests to enjoy under a 15,000 square-foot carpeted and air-conditioned tent. There's also dancing and a silent auction, with a much coveted prize of two tickets to see the smash Broadway hit "Hamilton".
