So Long Big Rich: Richard Einsidler RIP
Richard Einsidler was one of the Kings of Karaoke in Montauk. Everyone loved Big Rich!

If you have ever sang Karaoke in Montauk you knew Richard “Big Rich” Einsidler who passed away Feb 14, 2016. I was a Karaoke Junkie in the golden days of Montauk Karaoke in 2006-2010 when in the summer karaoke was somewhere almost every night.Rich was the king, who perhaps brought Karaoke to more locations in Montauk than anyone. He was a big man, with an even bigger heart. He would cheer you up when you where down, sing you your favorite tune when you asked and never ever lost his cool. He knew almost everyone’s go to Karaoke song and would have it cued up as you entered the venue. His karaoke singing of Billy Joel and Elton John songs were always appreciated by the patrons for the quality and passion in the performance. Big Rich was the quintessential Karaoke master.
The Karaoke family in Montauk back then was tight. We had private Karaoke parties for our birthdays and other celebrations. Liar’s Saloon even sponsored cash awards for 6 week long Karaoke contests. At the events rival Karaoke vendors such as Big Rich, Harry and Jimmy LaGarenne would actually sing songs together, or at least back each other up, such was the tightness. Many of Big Rich’s legendary gig venue’s no longer exist, Lenny’s Clam Bar being one of them. Big Rich set up shop at the Tipperary, Sails Inn, Clemente’s, Nick’s at the beach, just to name a few.
Although he lived up Island Big Rich was a genuine Montauk legend. His untimely passing is still a shock to all those who loved and sang along with him via Karaoke. Years back when I worked until 4 am and lived in Montauk I would catch an early morning post work meal somewhere around 5 am at the old Salivar’s, the open all night one. Rich was always there perhaps with Kim Esperian and her recently deceased mom Lola Snow. Many of the bartenders, waiters, waitresses, and receptionists would also being there along with a few early morning fishermen. We all nodded to each other and smiled. Some of us were going through tough times, but back then that was Montauk, everyone in it together as family. Big Rich was right in there to say hello, and make you feel good. That’s how Big Rich spent the last 20 years of his life, making people have fun through Karaoke. I never saw the big guy get angry, rude or lose his cool because Big Rich was the real deal Montauk Cool. He will be missed but not forgotten.
