Town Adopts 2013 Budget

Last week, the East Hampton Town Board unanimously approved a $69 million spending budget for 2013, an increase of just over 5 percent over the current fiscal year, The East Hampton Star reported.

Following a public hearing of Supervisor Bill Wilkinson's proposed budget, several additions were made, including a $25,000 increase for Project MOST, an after-school program for East Hampton and Springs students, and a sum of $40,000 to fund a survey of the deer population to kick of the deer management plan.

According to The Star, tax rates for most residents will increase by 4.7 percent, at a rate of $27.91 per $100 of assessed value. Those residing in East Hampton and Sag Harbor villages, a 1.4-percent decrease in tax rates, or approximately $10.96 per $100 of assessed value, is forthcoming due to the adopted budget.

The 2013 budget also includes a line for a new part-time code enforcement officer at a sum of $26,000.
