Troopers Arrest 5 for DWI, 1 for Weapons

State Police aid local cops in patrolling busy summer roads across the East End.


The New York State Police in Riverhead have arrested two women and three men for driving while intoxicated and one man for criminal possession of a weapon during the period dating from July 14 to July 20.

Matthew C. Allenger, 21, of Oakdale, was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana when he was stopped on Pantigo Road in East Hampton on July 14. Allenger was pulled over after State Troopers observed he was not wearing a seatbelt. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed Allenger had an expandable baton. He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of East Hampton Court on July 24 at 9:30 a.m.

Carlos H. Bercian, 47, of Oak Street in Brentwood, was arrested for driving while intoxicated on July 14. State Troopers observed Bercian driving eastbound on Route 27 near exit 64 without a seatbelt and pulled him over. A subsequent investigation determined Bercian was intoxicated. He was released on a uniform traffic ticket returnable to the Town of Southampton Court on July 21 at 9 a.m.

Brandon R. Kay, 19, of Abbey Lane in Setauket was arrested for driving while intoxicated on July 14. A Westhampton Dunes constable stopped Kay for a vehicle and traffic law violation. A subsequent investigation revealed Kay was drunk. He was released on a uniform traffic ticket returnable to the Westhampton Dunes Court at a later date.

Sybil G. Malkin, 40, of Woodland Drive, Easton, CT, was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated on July 17. Troopers pulled her over for speeding on Route 27 and a subsequent investigation revealed she was drunk. She was released on a uniform traffic ticket returnable to the Town of Southampton Court on August 11 at 9 a.m.

Nuris Maldonado-Maldonado, 28, of Shore Drive, Mastic Beach, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was observed by Troopers weaving from her lane on Route 27 westbound near exit 65, and pulled over. A subsequent investigation determined she was drunk. Maldonado was released on a uniform traffic ticket returnable to the Town of Southampton Court on July 30 at 1 p.m.

Pedro Morales Chacaj, 30, of Montauk Highway in Westhampton was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated after being pulled over on Route 31, South of Stewart Avenue, for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Chacaj was released on a uniform traffic ticket returnable to the Town of Southampton Court at a later date.
