Wet Willie: Flotilla Gathers to Hear Country Crooner in Montauk

Blogger tells of stumbling upon hundreds of boaters at the Willie Nelson concert.

What do you do when want to hear your favorite Country crooner at the Surf Lodge in Montauk but you don't have a ticket? You head out onto the pond and listen in on your kayak, paddle board, canoe or anything else that will float.

Willie Nelson is known for his song "On the Road Again" but these folks went a little off-road to enjoy the rocker's show.

That's what one of our bloggers found when he went for a drive out from Patchogue to have dinner with his wife in Montauk last weekend. To his delight Ben Vitale stumbled across what he called a "dinghy flotilla" drifting in Fort Pond straining to hear the music of Willie Nelson, performing at Surf Lodge on June 8.

"I just couldn’t believe my eyes; there were a few hundred people watching the concert, from the water; while lounging on anything that would float," Vitalie wrote.

The Vitalie had a great night in Montauk but the vision of all those fans bobbing around for the concert was a delight to the blogger. His only regret?

"Too bad I didn’t have a dinghy," he said.
