Will the Beach Mess in MONTAUK Have Co$t Overrun$?

Who will end up footing the bill when the project goes over budget.

So truly when has a government project come in under budget? There is always some surprise hidden cost due to things like bad weather. The “big dig” in Montauk has now seen some bad weather and surprise tides due to storms. The above photo taken by Montauk local Thomas Bradley Muse illustrates where things stand as of today Tuesday Jan.26th! Plainly speaking things are not going peachy. So the millions of dollars question is who is going to foot the bills when the cost overruns take off.

As of now all is quiet because there are millions of dollars still to be spent. I am surprised how few public officials are at the site on a regular basis proclaiming it a success so far, and coming in on budget. That is never a good sign. Sooner or later I am guessing the blame game will begin. Be prepared to hear things like, “It was the previous board who requested this project,” and a certain Congressman saying,... ‘it was the previous Congressman who requested the federal money.” Lastly they will all say, “It was the bad weather.” Nobody who made the decision to proceed will say the residents were correct, it was an ill advised project with not enough input from people who knew about such things.

I can assure you there will be no photo in the near future of the political decision makers standing on the eroded beach in Montauk saying, “I am proud to be behind this and I am staking my political career on its success,” or better yet, “I can guarantee it will come in on or under budget and be a complete success.” What anyone who lives near the project can sadly tell you is that something unplanned is happening and the results will be epic.

So who will pick up the check for the cost overruns lawsuit and costs. The sad part is nobody really wants the beach to be destroyed to say they were right, they are just sad their voices weren’t listened to.
