Man Accused Of Armed Kidnapping, Robbery On LI

A woman was sitting in her car outside a Long Island school and talking on her phone when a man kidnapped her at gunpoint, police said.

SPRINGS, NY — A man has been arrested and charged in the armed kidnapping and robbery of a Springs woman in early March, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Jay Rowe, 47, of Springs, surrendered to detectives on Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, second-degree kidnapping, a felony and fourth-degree grand larceny.

On March 8 at 2:42 p.m., a 38-year-old Springs woman was sitting in the rear parking lot of the Springs School and talking on her phone when Rowe entered her vehicle and displayed a handgun, police said. He demanded she drive to nearby Shipyard Lane, a dead-end road, and he stole $8,000 and her phone before running away, police said. The school's dismissal was delayed while officers secured the area, according to police.

Rowe will be arraigned Tuesday at Suffolk County Superior Court in Riverhead.
