Coronavirus In Nassau: Nursing Home Resident Dies; Deaths Spike

Deaths in Nassau almost doubled since yesterday, and included an elderly patient at a nursing home that has 17 more cases.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — A day after Nassau County officials said 18 residents at a nursing home had become infected with the new coronavirus, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced one of them has died. The other 17 patients at the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility remain in stable condition, Curran said. None of them need ventilators at this time. There have been no visitors allowed at the facility since March 13.

The Uniondale nursing home is run by Nassau University Medical Center and provides medical care to its elderly residents.

The death comes as the number of confirmed cases and deaths continued to rise in Nassau County. There are now 3,285 positive cases in Nassau, which includes people who have resolved. The number of deaths due to the virus also spiked overnight, jumping to 17 as of Wednesday morning, up from 10 the day before.
