In preparation for the community’s Memorial Day Parade, to be held on Monday, May 31, 2021, the East Meadow Fire Department and the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce recently put up U.S. flags along East Meadow Avenue.

The parade, in which many community-based groups will participate in, begins at 10 a.m. at East Meadow High School on Carman Avenue and will proceed south to Hempstead Turnpike, then east to Prospect Avenue, where it will end at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Prospect Avenue and East Meadow Avenue. Once at the park, a memorial ceremony will honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the U.S. armed forces.

Before the parade, EMFD members will gather at fire headquarters for its annual inspection and a memorial service honoring its fallen members; from there, they will attend a service at Eisenhower Park before joining the parade, to which all community members are invited to attend.

Observed on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day is a federal holiday to honor and remember military service personnel who have died in the performance of their duties while serving in the armed forces.

The East Meadow Fire Department, which covers East Meadow and parts of Levittown and Westbury (Salisbury), is always looking for new members to join their ranks as firefighters or emergency medical personnel; no experience is necessary. The fire department provides the training required. There are numerous benefits associated with volunteering, including tax breaks, college scholarships, annual health checkups, life insurance, and a service award pension program, all at no cost.
