Volunteers from the East Meadow Fire Department responded to 1,499 requests for help in the calendar year 2020. Among those calls included requests for service from the community for reports of fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, and other calls requiring a fire department response.

The all-volunteer fire department answered 614 calls for fires (including structure, vehicle, and other types of fires), 515 requests for emergency medical response, 80 motor vehicle accidents, and 290 calls for miscellaneous assistance, including mutual aid to other fire departments, automatic alarms, and carbon monoxide alarm activations, and other unclassified requests for the fire department’s response.

In addition to requests for service, fire department members also attended 539 drills in 2020. Drills ensure that volunteers receive the most advanced firefighting and lifesaving training available. Other benefits of the training include making sure that members are thoroughly familiar with the equipment and apparatus used in carrying out their duties within the volunteer fire department.
