East Meadow Track Teams Start Season With Virtual Meets

In a sign of the times, students competed without any opponents present.

EAST MEADOW, NY — The East Meadow High School and W.T. Clarke High School winter track teams opened their season with virtual track meets on Jan. 14, with teams competing without in-person opponents.

Students competed in regular meet events, like the 300-, 600-, 1,000- and 1,600-meter races, as well as the high jump, long jump and shot put. Times and distances were recorded by meet officials and shared with Section VIII and the Nassau County Track Coaches Association.

“Our athletes proudly represented our schools, and there was no shortage of enthusiasm as teammates cheered for one another,” said East Meadow High School Athletic Director Kevin Regan. “It was a positive start to the 2021 athletic season.”
