EMFD Recognizes Robert Salveson, Sr. for Fifty Years of Service
EMFD's Ladder Company Two Member Serving Since 1970

The Board of Fire Commissioners of the East Meadow Fire District offers its gratitude and congratulations to Robert (Bob) Salveson, Sr. for fifty years of service to the community as part of the East Meadow Volunteer Fire Department. Bob joined the EMFD’s Ladder Company Two on Newbridge Road in Levittown on April 27, 1970. There, he rose through the ranks and became a captain in 1980; he also became a member of the EMFD FireMedic Squad, where he also served as captain.
Bob was a military baby born in the Mitchell Field Hospital while his father served in the United States Air Force. His parents were among the original buyers of a Levitt-built home in the fire district’s Levittown section. Bob married his high school sweetheart Barbara, and they raised their two sons next door to the house where he grew up. Their son Robert Salveson, Jr. followed his father’s footsteps and joined the EMFD, eventually serving as Chief of Department. Salveson’s other son, Craig, is the owner of a successful electrical contracting company in Louisburg, NC.
In 1986, Bob realized a lifelong dream and joined the New York City Fire Department Bureau of Emergency Medical Service. During his career with the FDNY, he received numerous professional recognitions, including ten pre-hospital save commendations. He was honored by the Far Rockaway Chamber of Commerce with its “Rockaway’s Bravest & Finest Award,” and received several commendations for Professional Conduct, to name a few.

Bob retired from the FDNY in 2010 but continues to be an active member of Ladder Two, where he enjoys interacting with the members — whether or not they ask for his opinion. Bob and Barbara now enjoy playing with their grandchildren and cruising to places like Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean and are always planning their next getaway.
“On behalf of the East Meadow Fire District and the residents we serve, we are grateful to Bob Salverson for his tireless and unwavering service to the East Meadow Fire Department,” said Commissioner William J. Neill. “His exemplary devotion to protecting the community for the past 50-years is quite remarkable and worthy of our appreciation.”
