Hour-by-Hour to Feels Like 113 Degrees: Nassau County Weather Forecast

If you have the opportunity to spend the weekend in front of an air conditioner or inside a pool, you are going to want to do so.

An excessive heat warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for Nassau County. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper-90s, but the heat index, how hot it really feels when the humidity is factored in, could climb to 113 degrees on Saturday and 105 degrees on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The combination of the heat and humidity will increase the risk for heat-related health issues, especially for the elderly, those with chronic health problems such as lung and heart disease, those working outdoors and other heat sensitive groups of people, the NWS says.

Nassau County has opened a cooling center at the Mitchel Field Administration Center located at 1 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale. It's open daily from 9 a.m. until 4:45 p.m.

A hazardous weather outlook is also in effect for Nassau, with the NWS warning that any thunderstorms that develop will be capable of producing torrential rainfall and localized flash flooding. There's a 20 percent of showers and thunderstorms during the day on Saturday and Sunday. At night on both days, the odds of showers and thunderstorms increases to 30 percent.

If you are heading to the beach Saturday, there's a moderate risk of rip currents at Atlantic-facing beaches, the NWS says.
