Marvin and Ria Canita of East Meadow are running in the new four-member relay at the Suffolk Marathon on Oct. 29.
The relay covers the full marathon course. Other races in the Catholic Health Services event include a full marathon, half marathon and a 5k run/walk.
“I started running 6 years ago as a means to lose weight,” Marvin Canita said. “My father died of a massive heart attack at age 50 and I was afraid I’m heading the same direction.

“ This inspired my wife to join me in training and running. We’ve run a few races together and decided that a relay would be a fun way to get other family members involved.
“My wife’s cousins, PJ and Charie, who are brother and sister, are also running as part of the team.”
