The Latest On Long Island Snow Chances

A weather pattern shift is expected this week on Long Island, bringing below-normal temperatures and the possibility of snow, according to forecasters.

Snow is possible on three straight days from Friday to Sunday, but details are still sketchy at this point and no accumulation predictions have been made, the National Weather Service said.

The best chance of snow, with the current odds at 50 percent, will come on Saturday.

"Regardless of any wintry precipitation outcome during Saturday into early Sunday, increasing cold advection behind intensifying low pressure will result in a blustery and cold close to the weekend," the NWS said in a forecast discussion Monday night.

But before we get to weekend, there's rain in the forecast Tuesday and temperatures will drop steadily headed toward the end of the week.

The full forecast:

Tuesday- Rain likely, mainly after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 59. Breezy, with a south wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night- Rain. Low around 46. Breezy, with a south wind 14 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Wednesday- A chance of rain before 9am, then a slight chance of showers between 9am and noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 46 by 10am. West wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. West wind 8 to 16 mph.

Thursday- Sunny, with a high near 45.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Friday- A chance of rain and snow after 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday Night- A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday- A chance of rain and snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday Night- A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Sunday- A 30 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 41.
