Long Island's Newest Sonic Drive-In Opens Today

The East Meadow location is the third on the Island.

Long Island's newest Sonic Drive-In, located in East Meadow, opens its doors today. People who stop by can expect shakes, burgers and slushies — and probably long lines, too.

The restaurant, which can be found at the location of the old Burger King at 1724 Hempstead Turnpike, is known for its roller-skating wait staff and car-side service. It offers 1950s diner-style fair, with burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs and milkshakes.

The East Meadow location has been in the works for years. It joins the growing list of Sonic locations on Long Island, which already has restaurants in North Babylon and Valley Stream, which just opened earlier this year. Later this year, the company will open a fourth store in Nesconset.
