Many Nassau County Park Facilities Reopening This Weekend

EAST MEADOW, NY — In order to help people have safe things to do as they socially distance this summer, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced that many features at the county's parks are reopening, and food trucks are going to become a staple at one of them.

At her daily briefing, Curran announced that playgrounds at the nearly three dozen county parks are going to reopen this weekend. Additionally, Curran said that food trucks were going to become a staple at Eisenhower Park this summer.

"They'll be here every day throughout the summer season," said Curran. "If this is successful this year, we'll look to expand upon it for years to come."

Curran said that the county's 67 playgrounds in its 35 parks will reopen on Saturday. Though the playgrounds will be open, social distancing requirements will still be in place. Children and adults will have to wear masks at the playgrounds, and Curran encouraged parents to bring hand sanitizer with them.

"I ask all parents to use common sense," Curran said. "If you feel it's unsafe to go to a playground, for your child to play on a playground, then don't go."

The county is also reopening its RV campground at Nickerson Beach on Sunday. "We can have a semblance of a normal summer," said Curran.

In addition to people parks, Curran announced that the county's seven dog parks are also reopening this weekend.

Curran said the county also received guidance from the state, and will be able to open its two pools at Nickerson Beach. Which means that all six county pools will open this summer, but will be for Nassau County residents only.
