Nassau Man Arrested While Trying To Rob Bank: Police
Police say employees pulled a silent alarm during the robbery, alerting officers.

EAST MEADOW, NY — A Lynbrook man was arrested Saturday afternoon while he was trying to rob a bank in East Meadow, Nassau County police said.
Mathew Matteo, 28, entered Chase Bank at 2469 Hempstead Turnpike at 1:40 p.m. and passed a note to the teller demanding money, police said. He then verbally demanded money, police said.
Employees called 911 and pulled a silent alarm while Matteo was still in the bank, police said. Officers responded and arrested him without incident.

Five employees were in the bank at the time; no one was injured.
Matteo was charged with third-degree attempted robbery. He was arraigned Sunday.
