Long Island Weather: Dangerous Heat, Damaging Storms Thursday
A heat advisory has also been issued for most of the island.

LONG ISLAND, NY — More than 7,000 power outages were reported on Long Island at one point Wednesday night and severe storms will have the potential to cause more problems Thursday.
There's a chance of storms in the afternoon, but it's later in the day — especially from about 8 p.m. until midnight — when the National Weather Service said the odds of severe weather will be at their highest.
The primary threat will be damaging winds. Heavy rain, frequent lightning and 1-inch hail are also possible.

Potential for another round of severe storms this afternoon and evening, especially across parts of the Northeast. Damaging wind gusts are expected to be the primary threat, although hail and very heavy downpours may also accompany some of the storms. pic.twitter.com/o7Ve8uq4Nm
