Northwell Health Orthopaedic Institute Congratulates New York Cosmos

Northwell Health, the official health care provider of the New York Cosmos, congratulates the team for earning its second consecutive North American Soccer League championship.

The Northwell Health Orthopaedic Institute – led by Nicholas A. Sgaglione, MD, professor and chair of the department of orthopaedic surgery at Northwell Health, and at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine – fielded its own winning lineup in a supporting role.

"Winning a championship is a team effort and the Northwell Health Orthopaedic Institute is proud to have been part of this team’s successful season,” said Dr. Sgaglione, who served as the Cosmos’ medical director. “We have worked closely with management, coaches, players, and medical staff to keep the New York Cosmos on the field playing their best. We look forward to our ongoing partnership as their health care provider and our commitment to treating the back-back, 2016 NASL champions!”

Andrew D. Goodwillie, MD, and Randy M. Cohn, MD, served as head team physician and associate team physician, respectively. Northwell Orthopaedics played an important behind-the-scenes role for the Cosmos, which finished with a 14-5-3 record and defeated the Indy Eleven on penalty kicks to win the 2016 title on November 13.
