NuHealth Doctor to be Honored by Million Woman Community of LI

Dr. Christine Brown will be honored at the organization's second annual Kwanzaa celebration Friday.

Dr. Christine Brown, clinical director of the Department of Community Medicine for the NuHealth System at the Westbury/New Cassel Family Health Center, will be honored by the "Million Woman Community of Long Island" at their second annual Kwanzaa celebration, with the support of the Town of North Hempstead.

The celebration will be held Friday at the Yes We Can Community Center of Westbury, with the theme “Creating a Legacy: Nelson to Obama.” The evening will include a processional with dignitaries, honorees and officials, a candle-lighting ceremony, presentations, education and entertainment.

“I am honored to have been selected by the Million Woman Community of LI and look forward to continuing our commitment to improve the health status of not only those at risk, but all of the people of Nassau County," Dr. Brown said. "I am grateful and touched by the recognition afforded to me.”

Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, NuHealth’s Chief Medical Officer, expressed his congratulations. “We are proud of what this honor means to you, to us and to our patients, a well-deserved recognition that confirms your commitment and dedication. Another reflection on you and the vital role you play in advancing our mission of providing quality care to Nassau’s most vulnerable patients.”

Dr. Brown joined the NUMC faculty in 2005. She currently serves as clinical director of the Department of Community Medicine but also practices the full spectrum of family medicine at the Westbury/New Cassel Community Health Center.

Dr. Brown received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from New York University. While there she investigated the development of visual functions in infant pigtailed macaque monkeys, the results of which provided insight into the treatment of Strabismus in children.

Dr. Brown received her M.D. degree from the University of Stony Brook School of Medicine and ultimately completed her Family Medicine Residency training at Jamaica Hospital where she served as chief resident.

Officials of the Million Woman Community of LI congratulated Dr. Brown on her upcoming recognition in the healthcare category: “The Million Woman Community of LI appreciates your efforts on behalf of the community. Thank you for all you do to enhance the quality of life among families.”
