Quarter Of New Nassau COVID Cases Are From Out Of State: Curran

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — More and more people from out of state are contracting the coronavirus in Nassau County, County Executive Laura Curran said Tuesday.

The county's new daily cases are still low. But over the last three weeks, 15 to 25 percent of the new positive cases are people who came to Nassau from out of state.

"It's a really big concern," Curran said. "So if you're visiting, we welcome you. But if you're coming from another state where there are a rising number of cases, we want you to take some time to quarantine. Get tested."

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has required people coming to New York from states with rising coronavirus cases to quarantine for 14 days. There are now 19 states that the governor's order applies to.

"As states around the country experience increasing community spread, New York is taking action to ensure the continued safety of our phased reopening," Cuomo said in a new release. "Our entire response to this pandemic has been by the numbers, and we've set metrics for community spread just as we set metrics for everything."
