Theodora Zavala in "Quattro" at Barnes Gallery

"Quattro" Opening Reception is Saturday, November 4th from 5:30- 7:30 pm.

Barnes Gallery presents "Quattro" for the month of November, featuring over 60 paintings of four artists: East Meadow resident Theodora Zavala, along with the work of Suzie Alvey, Ray Guttadauria and Tony LaMarca. Subjects they have painted are local landscapes, city scenes, still lifes and more in oils and watercolors. The show runs from November 1st to November 30th.

The opening reception will be on Saturday, November 4th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm with refreshments by Prime Catering of Garden City South. All are invited to see the lovely paintings and meet the artists.

East Meadow resident, Theodora Zavala has exhibited and received awards for her artwork in shows across Long Island and New York City. She is a member of the National Art League, the Art League of Nassau County, the Suburban Art League and the Art Guild of Port Washington. She has studied with Master Pastelist, Dan Slapo, PSA, Rob Silverman and Howard Rose. Theodora graduated from Queens College, CUNY with a BA in Fine Arts and from Hofstra University with a Masters in Elementary Education. She currently teaches with the New York City Department of Education.

Suzie Alvey creates original family heirlooms that are in many private collections in the United States and Europe. She paints in oil, watercolor and pastel featuring landscapes she has found on Long Island in New York State. She has painted hundreds of house portraits on commission. Suzie's landscapes and portraits have won art show awards. Starting in 2015 Ms. Alvey has given painting and photography workshops. She received her Bachelor in Studio Art from the State University at Albany. Suzie has been a juried member of the National Art League and the Art League of Nassau County since 1987, as well as a board member of the ALNC for many years. In addition, she is a board member the Suburban Art League, a member of the Greater Westbury Council of the Arts and Garden City's Assistant Village Historian.

Ray Guttadauria of Massapequa was an executive in the electrical industry and after retirement is a full-time artist, which was his goal and passion for many years. He has studied at the Art Students League with Everett Raymond Kinstler, Nelson Shanks, Daniel Greene, Max Ginsberg, Steven Assael and others. He has won numerous awards at local art shows including the Salmagundi's Open Show, the Suburban Art League and the Art League of Nassau County. His work is with private collectors, executive offices and celebrities' homes.

Like Ray, Tony LaMarca didn't start painting until he retired, from the airline business. He took classes at the Westbury Community Center, where he lives. He has since studied with Nettie Burke, Selma Stern, Mary Jo Anzel, Joe Occhipinti, Bart deCeglie, Debra Wnuk and Howard Rose. Tony has won many awards at local art leagues and his work can be seen in collections in the United States and Canada. He is president of the Suburban Art League and is a juried member of the Art League of Nassau County, Independent Art League and Village Art Club.
