Long Island Weather: Over A Foot Of Snow, 50 MPH Winds On The Way

Snow totals are expected to differ considerably across the island. See which areas are in line to get hit the hardest.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A winter storm watch has been issued for Long Island as a monster snowstorm threatens to dump more than a foot of snow on most of the island Wednesday and Thursday.

The storm watch will be in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday. A total of 8-14 inches of snow is likely to accumulate in Nassau County and western Suffolk County. Eastern Suffolk is in line for 6-10 inches. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph.

"Travel could be very difficult to impossible," the weather service said. "Hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches."

Tuesday- Sunny, with a high near 39. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph.

Tuesday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. North wind around 10 mph.

Wednesday- Snow likely, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Breezy, with an east wind 11 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Wednesday Night- Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 28. Windy. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 9 to 13 inches possible.

Thursday- Snow likely before noon, then a chance of snow showers between noon and 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. Windy. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22.

Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 36.

Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 23.
