Annual Tree Lighting is Tuesday Downtown

Here's a look at the major news items and events upcoming in Farmingdale this week:

1. The annual tree lighting of the Tri-Centennial tree will be held at Farmingdale's Village Green Tuesday at 6 p.m.. Refreshments to follow at Village Hall.

2. The South Farmingdale Fire Department is holding a poinsettias/wreath sale Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

3. A live television remake of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic "The Sound of Music" is being shot and telecast at the Grumman Studios in nearby Bethpage on Thursday. We'll tell you more about it this week.

4. In case you missed it, Farmingdale's valiant football season came to an end Saturday with a defeat to Sachem North in the Long Island Championship. Details here.

5. The National Weather Service says the week ahead will be generally dry with temperatures ranging from the high 30s to the high 40s as the week progresses.
