Artist Colin Goldberg Exhibiting At Farmingdale State College

Long Island artist Colin Goldberg describes his intersection of traditional and digital art-making as "techspressionism."

Long Island artist Colin Goldberg – who describes his intersection of traditional and digital art-making as techspressionism – is exhibiting at Farmingdale State College’s Memorial Gallery now through November 15.

The show – “History of the Future” – is a survey of Goldberg’s work from 2009 through 2015. The Memorial Gallery is located in Hale Hall. The exhibit is free and open to the public weekdays, 9 a.m.– 4 p.m. The show is curated by Beth Giacummo, the gallery’s new director.

Goldberg – who works out of his studio in Rocky Point - will discuss and demo his work at the college on Tuesday, October 18, in Gleeson Hall Room 104, from 11 a.m. – noon. A reception for the artist is scheduled for 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Hale Hall.

The artist’s work is informed by a diverse range of sources, including Abstract Expressionist painters such as Franz Kline and Clyfford Still; Japanese calligraphy and woodcuts; and pop-era artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol. Goldberg’s work resides in numerous private and corporate collections, as well as the permanent collection of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center in East Hampton. His work has been exhibited at museums, galleries and art fairs across the United States.

Goldberg is the recipient of grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and The New York State Council on the Arts. He was a resident artist at The Studios of Key West in 2015, where he was profiled by PBS. He studied painting at Binghamton University under Angelo Ippolito, a noted New York School Abstract Expressionist painter. He took his MFA in Computer Art at Bowling Green State University.
