Beloved Farmingdale School District Admin, Murray Cantor, Dies

"He truly treated every student with love and respect." A scholarship fund for graduating Farmingdale HS seniors was set up in his name.

FARMINGDALE, NY — Murray Cantor, a teacher and administrator at Woodward Parkway Elementary School for over 35 years, recently died, the Farmingdale School District said Tuesday.

The school district called Murray an icon who was beloved by the community.

"An overwhelming number of Dalers have reached out to convey their condolences, share memories of Murray, and ask what they can do to keep his legacy alive here in Farmingdale," the district said in a Facebook post.

In honor of his love, dedication, and service to the community, The Murray Cantor Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up to accept donations. Scholarships will be awarded to Farmingdale High School seniors on an annual basis.

"While the amount funded and the number of scholarships awarded may vary from year to year, each time a child is bestowed with a gift in Murray's name, his love and spirit will live on," the district said.

Nearly a hundred Dalers commented on the school district's post, taking the time to mourn Cantor and share their favorite memories of him.

"He truly treated every student with love and respect. Always with the high fives," one wrote.

"His cologne I will always remember," another said.

Many more posted about Cantor's high fives, how friendly he was and the mark he made on countless lives during their time at Woodward.
