Everything You Always Wanted to Know About LI’s Manufacturing Ind

But didn't know who to ask

Lindenhurst, NY--July 27, 2020: What are our images of manufacturing? Are they dirty, dark factories filled with machinery? Are they filled with only machinists and assemblers on a factor floor doing mundane work? Isn’t that what our parents told us? How many years ago was that? Time for the facts and the need for a workforce that this long-standing and very successful industry on Long Island requires. Here are the facts, as per Patrick Boyle, Executive Director, Ignite LI, “Long Island hosts nearly 3,000 manufacturers who produce everything from aerospace, biotech, pharmaceuticals and of course Tate’s cookies. Every day 70,000 of our friends and neighbors go to work in technical careers producing products that power everyday life on Long Island and across the globe. These are jobs that employ everyone from high school graduates to Doctors and typically pay 20% more than the rest of the country! Long Island has some of the worlds most technical, clean and in demand industries, it is time for us to talk about these great jobs so close to home.

Just watch and listen to the interview with Patrick Boyle, Executive Director, Ignite Long Island, for the trade association for LI’s manufacturing industry. He explains about the rich history of manufacturing and its current workforce needs. He talks about a “Silver Tsunami” which describes the aging of the workforce and the desperate need to bring new people into its companies. What really is a wake-up call is the 1300 unfilled jobs in this industry just last year!!!

Who knows about that? How do we get the word out? Lisa Strahs-Lorenc, President of Go Career Compass created this company with the sole purpose of educating the present and future workforce about Long Island’s career opportunities, one of which is a career in the manufacturing industry. With the gap continuing to grow, it is the hope of this entrepreneur, career counselor, non-profit and workforce development professional and educator that the company will be a connector and a communications vehicle for opening new doors. Through virtual stories, companies, organizations and industries on Long Island have the opportunity to elaborate on their company culture, personality, image, present and future workforce needs to a number of individuals: students, graduates, unemployed, job changers, individuals seeking new career direction and those who just want to explore. The manufacturing industry is just the first of many stories that will be told through the Member portal of the Go Career Compass website. Time to become a FREE Member of Go Career Compass.
