FARMINGDALE, NY — The repaving of Route 109, indoor dining and a business relocation are at the center of the latest update from Farmingdale Village Mayor Ralph Ekstrand.

The village was told the repaving of the west side of Route 109 is slated to begin mid-April. The project manager is waiting for a delivery of sewer and drainage castings from the Nassau County Department of Public Works, according to Ekstrand. The west side project will likely take six weeks, the mayor said. There are 58 locations that need work on the west side of Route 109 from the county line to the intersection of Conklin and 109.

The eastbound side will also see some work done on it. There are 11 spots where castings need to be repaired and/or replaced, according to Ekstrand.

Once the castings are replaced, the milling and repaving will be done, which will then be followed by new traffic loops at intersections with traffic lights. Finally, new striping will be done.

"The best estimate of completion at this time is the middle to the end of June," Ekstrand wrote.

Mid-March marks roughly one year ago that New York state went on "pause" due to the coronavirus pandemic. New positive cases have been declining on Long Island and throughout the state, the mayor pointed out.

"We reflect on the past year as 'a year like no other' as we progress towards brighter days," Ekstrand said. "Good news; restaurants are able to operate at 75% capacity starting March 19th."

Rosner Russo Shahabian PLLC, a personal injury law firm, recently relocated to Farmingdale Village. The firm, which started two years ago, is now at 398 Conklin St. and was welcomed into the village by Ekstrand.

"The law firm is excited to be a part of the community," Ekstrand said. "According to Thomas Russo, the Farmingdale Village office location was selected because it is up and coming, a wonderful Village, located on the Nassau-Suffolk border, near the train station."

Shahabian became a lawyer after hiring Russo to represent him following an accident, Ekstrand said.

"Congratulations — and on behalf of the Board of Trustees and myself — we wish the partners and the firm success and are happy that you chose Farmingdale Village for your new office location!!" the mayor wrote.

The Farmingdale Public Library, which is open, is offering many virtual classes, workshops and activities.

The mayor encouraged residents to support local merchants throughout Farmingdale.

"Our wonderful Village offers so many great shops, eateries, salons, and more — shop and dine local," he wrote. "Additionally, consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine when eligible and continue practicing social distancing, wear face coverings and wash your hands."
