Farmingdale Village Mayor Offers Coronavirus Update, Advice
Here are some updates from Farmingdale Village regarding the new coronavirus.

FARMINGDALE, NY — Farmingdale Village Mayor Ralph Ekstrand provided an update on how the Village is dealing with the new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19. The Village is following Gov. Andrew Cuomo's guidelines, which include all non-essential workers remaining home, social distancing, and the closure of all restaurants, bars and other businesses to sit-down service.
Residents are reminded to wash their hands frequently, wipe down canned and glass-enclosed food items, wash vegetables thoroughly, and washing your hands before and after cleaning food.

The Village's Code Department was tasked with enforcing social distancing, while the Building Department is looking for contractors who violate the essential construction only guidelines issued by Cuomo. Residents are asked to call Fire Dispatch at 516-531-9820 if they see a truck taking water from fire hydrants.
The peak of the coronavirus is still expected within a couple of weeks, Cuomo said. Ekstrand asked villagers to follow the guidelines so there's less risk of people becoming infected.

Nassau County has over 12,000 people who've tested positive for COVID-19 as of Friday afternoon, said County Executive Laura Curran. Farmingdale Village has 26 cases, while South Farmingdale has 36, according to a Nassau coronavirus map.
"We appreciate the many workers in the essential businesses that are contributing to help during this crisis (government officials, police, fire departments, EMS workers/emergency workers, school officials, health care, utilities, food-related, delivery, retail, food banks, volunteers, the Chamber of Commerce, other organizations, news outlets), and all others working during this time," Ekstrand wrote in a statement. "There will be better times ahead."
The Village election has been postponed until after June 1. The new date will depend on guidance from the New York State Board of Elections. Ekstrand, the incumbent, is slated to take on former mayor George "Butch" Starkie; the election was originally scheduled for March 18.
The Long Island Railroad provided an update on the Farmingdale shelter shed installations. Due to the coronavirus, the manufacturer was delayed and the first shelter will now be installed on April 10 instead of April 3 as previously scheduled. The second shed is still on schedule to be installed April 24 — for now.
Residents are also reminded to complete the 2020 United States census.
