Farmingdale's My Grandmother's Kitchen Celebrates Grand Opening
A brother and sister founded the new eatery, which serves brunch fare. A ribbon cutting was held on Thursday.

FARMINGDALE, NY — My Grandmother's Kitchen, a new breakfast and lunch spot, held its grand opening in Farmingdale on Thursday morning.
The eatery is owned by brother and sister duo Jorge and Carolina Contreras, who grew up helping their grandmother cook in the kitchen. The siblings aim to live out their American dream and open the restaurant in memory of their grandmother, according to the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce.
"We are so, so happy to be in this town," Jorge Contreras told Patch. "Great people are here. I'm so excited. We're here to serve quality in every single plate that we're gonna serve to the customer. I'm waiting for everybody to try us for breakfast and lunch."

The store will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The menu boasts egg combinations, omelettes, egg sandwiches, French toast and pancakes. One stack features pancakes made with Reeses, peanut butter, and chocolate chips. Sides include bacon, ham, sausage, home fries, corned beef hash, and more. For lunch, the eatery serves sandwiches and cheeseburgers.

Most menu items are recipes originally crafted by the Contreras' grandmother, though Jorge said he came up with some options, too.
"It will be a pleasure to serve everybody," he said.
Elected officials were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday.
"You started the project, and then the pandemic slowed you down," Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce President Joseph Garcia said. "It's never easy to open a business, but to do it in the middle of a pandemic, that's a new experience. Your staff, I've met some of them walking down Main Street handing out flyers, so I know you and your whole staff believe in the concept; believe in your restaurant."
Ralph Ekstrand, mayor of Farmingdale Village, told the Contreras that Farmingdale is pro-business and that My Grandmother's Kitchen is a part of the village's business improvement district.
"We've got a lot of people out here rooting for you," Ekstrand said.
My Grandmother's Kitchen is at 169 Main St., Farmingdale.
