Flash Flood Warning Issued for Southern Suffolk
BREAKING: Many western Suffolk towns are expected to experience flash flooding Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service says.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning Thursday for several western Suffolk locations on the South Shore.
The warning is issued until 5:45 p.m. According to the NWS, doppler radar indicated that thunderstorms are producing heavy rain across the area. Up to two inches have already fallen and flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.
The NWS says these are some of the locations that will experience flooding: Islip, Lindenhurst, Babylon, Amityville, Bay Shore, Captree State Park, Gilgo State Park, Brightwaters, Wyandanch, Baywood, West Islip, Copiague, East Farmingdale, East Islip and North Bay Shore.

Drivers should be cautious on the roads. NWS says to turn around when encountering flooded roads as most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots, NWS says.
