FARMINGDALE, NY — The holidays are on their way. This year, the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the struggles for families trying to make ends meet to put food on their table or gift toys to their children.

Fortunately, there are several ways Farmingdale residents can help out those in need. Here are some of them:

  • Toys for Tots: A collection box is at Farmingdale Village Hall, at 361 Main St. Toys must be new and unwrapped.
  • Farmingdale Village Food Harvest Food Collection: The collection box is also at Farmingdale Village Hall. Non-perishable foods can be dropped off Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • St. Kilian Social Ministry is accepting food and toiletry donations on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to Noon. They are located at 140 Elizabeth St.; enter from rectory parking lot, facing Conklin Street. Items to donate include grains, canned chicken, peanut butter, pasta, vegetables, canned fruit, coffee, condiments and sweet snacks. For more information, check the St. Kilian Parish Outreach website.
  • Pay It Forward Long Island: A nonprofit that aims to help the less fortunate by working with social workers who arrange the delivery of all gifts. There are multiple ways to help, including "adopting" a child to buy presents for, donating money, or purchasing a gift card for a child. • Both Farmingdale Rotary clubs are scheduled to ring the bell for the Salvation Army from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 19 and 20 at Stop & Shop at 55 Motor Ave.
