LI's American Airpower Museum To Host Tuskegee Airmen Forum

FARMINGDALE, NY — The American Airpower Museum is set to host a forum about The Tuskegee Airmen at 2 p.m. Sunday, the museum told Patch Saturday. The forum will be at Hangar 3 at the museum, which is located at 1230 New Highway, Farmingdale.

The event will feature a lively discussion about the airmen by the family members of the legendary military fighter pilots. The forum will be sponsored by the Claude Bravo Govan Tri-State Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen.

AAM President Jeff Clyman is slated to make a special presentation at 2:30 p.m. where he will recount the origins of AAM’s Tuskegee Airmen Exhibit, which was inaugurated in 2001 by New York State Governor George Pataki.

A full-scale fiberglass-molded replica of the original P-51 Mustang fighter flown by Clyman in the 1990s will be on display.

The Mustang is a fighter made famous by the Tuskegee airmen, as the pilots were the first group of Black American patriots who helped defeat the Luftwaffe in the air, as well as segregation on the ground, during World War II. Clyman will answer questions about the Mustang, its unique flying characteristics, armaments, and more.

The forum will be live-streamed on YouTube for those who want to watch and cannot make it to the museum.

The public was invited to attend the program, and no tickets or preregistration is required.

Admission to the museum is $15 for Adults, $10 for seniors and veterans and $8 for children ages 5 through 12. The museum's hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. all day Sunday.
