LONG ISLAND, NY — A Long Island craft beer brewery is participating in a statewide virtual happy hour initiative. Lithology Brewing in Farmingdale is joining brewers across the state as the New York State Brewers Association is helping showcase craft beers the Empire State has to offer.

Each happy hour will be hosted by a brewer and feature a different topic or virtual game. Since March 20, a different brewery introduced itself to craft enthusiasts each day. Now, it's Farmingdale's turn to show its stuff, as brewers look to connect with drinkers through the tough times posed by the new coronavirus. All happy hours start at 6:30 p.m. on their respective days.

Lithology Brewing Co. co-founder Manny Coelho will discuss his topic, Favorite Styles of Beer to Drink vs. Brew, on Friday. Lithology is offering both curbside pickup and delivery service of beers in cans and crowlers from its 211A Main St. location.

"This project is a great one considering what the world is going through right now," Coelho told Patch. "Breweries rely on their tasting room being open so that they can interact with their clients well, take tours or try all different flights to enjoy the experience of being at the brewery."

He said he hopes the NYS Brewers Association will continue the virtual happy hours even after the lock down ends.

"It gives us a chance to showcase things about our brewery that some people may not know. I hope it is both informative and also fun during these times. Getting people to forget that they can't go out and enjoy a beer with a bunch of people. Now they get to enjoy a beer in their living room with us."

Restaurants and bars on Long Island — and across the United States — have had to overcome a New York State mandate banning sit-down service until the COVID-19 spread passes. Merchants have adapted to primarily selling to-go and delivering, as the New York State Liquor Authority has temporarily relaxed its restrictions on alcohol sales.
