Plane Slides Off Runway At Republic Airport; 2 Hurt

EAST FARMINGDALE, NY — A plane slid off the runway at Republic Airport in East Farmingdale on Sunday night, injuring two and spilling jet fuel.

East Farmingdale Volunteer Fire Company crews freed the co-pilot from the aircraft. Both the pilot and co-pilot suffered minor injuries and were treated at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Newsday reported.

The Hawker 800 jet was flying to Republic Airport at around 8:35 p.m. when it experienced a landing gear malfunction, the New York Post reported. The plane came from Opa-Locka Executive Airport in Florida, the Federal Aviation Administration told the Post.

Firefighters laid down a foam blanket over leaking jet fuel to contain it. The East Farmingdale department said the call came in at 8:43 p.m.
